Meteorite crashing to Earth proves vulnerability: Injuries, Damage (videos) – www.ofINTEREST.net

How many times has it been that NASA and other organizations monitoring Earth's atmosphere and beyond, informed us of how the likelihood of any object, let alone a falling meteor, doing any significant damage and/or loss would be minimal at best? Well today, this 15th of February, 2013 about the Russian Ural mountain region of Chelyabinsk, Russia, many residents not only saw a heavenly body falling to earth, they experienced the results of an impact as well. 

The meteorite explosion in the stratosphere sent out an impact wave which damaged quite a few structures, including blowing out thousands of windows. This further complicates dealing with the frigid winter.

There have been reports of hundreds seeking medical attention for minor injuries. Nearest reports are about 950 people have sought medical attention in Chelyabinsk alone, according to the region's governor, Mikhail Yurevic. Of these, over 110 have required hospital attention, with 2 of them in more serious condition. 159 of the injured were children according to an Emergency Ministry representative.

Meteor strike injures hundreds in central Russia

 A meteor crashing in Russia's Ural mountains has injured at least 950 people, as the shockwave blew out windows and rocked buildings.

Most of those hurt, in the Chelyabinsk region where the meteor fell, suffered cuts and bruises but at least 46 remain in hospital.

A fireball streaked through the clear morning sky, followed by loud bangs.

President Vladimir Putin said he thanked God no big fragments had fallen in populated areas.

A large meteor fragment landed in a lake near Chebarkul, a town in Chelyabinsk region.

The meteor's dramatic passing was witnessed in Yekaterinburg, 200km (125 miles) to the north, and in Kazakhstan, to the south. ( more )
